Leprino Foods Career Opportunities |
Opportunity Snapshot
This position offers you the best of both worlds: you will assume leadership of solid and established maintenance programs, but you'll also be able to make an impact as you drive improvements. You'll join a financially responsible, stable 58-year-old company with no debt, and one that maintains old-fashioned loyalty to both customers and employees. Your success in this role could set you up to pursue multiple career paths in engineering, plant management, corporate production leadership, and more. If you share our commitment to doing a great job and being part of something special, Leprino Foods is a great place to build a long and dynamic career.
You will ensure we have the most modern, well-coordinated, and effective maintenance function at nine US plants, including helping the maintenance professionals at each plant grow in their careers. To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have significant management experience in food and/or beverage plant maintenance, including coordinating among multiple departments or plants. We're looking for a professional with outstanding leadership and influence skills and a track record of improving operations and processes. You also will need to be willing and able to travel 60% to 70% of the time.
Being a privately held, family owned, fast growing company, Leprino Foods can be a terrific place to work and build your career. Our plants contain some of the most technologically advanced dairy manufacturing equipment in the industry -- much of it our own invention. Our culture is passionate, combining a strong entrepreneurial spirit with a "buttoned down" approach to taking care of business. As a result, many of our employees -- and most of the company's leadership -- have been with us for 10, 20, even 45 years.
What Else You'll Bring to the Table
This position could be an ideal opportunity for a senior manager from a larger organization to step up to the Director level, or for a Director at a smaller company to assume ownership of broader challenges and opportunities. In addition to the qualifications detailed above, you'll need:
What's in It for You
High impact -- our maintenance programs are high quality and effective, but we'll also welcome your ideas regarding improvements and best practices. In general our culture is open to positive change, assuming you've done your homework and present a solid case.
Career development -- historically many people at Leprino Foods have worked their way up in the organization; as evidence, the Senior Vice President, Production Operations (to whom you will report) has been advancing his career steadily with us for longer than 20 years. In addition, this position is open because the incumbent is pursuing a new opportunity within the company. That individual will help you transition into your new role.
Great work environment -- we've created a unique culture in which the great American success story is alive and well, complemented by a prudent and strongly responsible approach to decision making. It's a challenging and dynamic atmosphere, and we have fun achieving results together. We put a high value on collaboration, and our culture is based on mutual accountability and respect -- it is neither elitist nor political.
Excellent compensation -- if you are committed to working hard for the company, and build strong relationships based on service to your fellow employees and our customers, you'll find your efforts rewarded through career development, strong support from the leadership of the company, and financially through our profit sharing plan. We offer a competitive salary, bonus incentive program, and comprehensive benefits.
The good life in the Rockies -- it almost goes without saying, but we love it so much here that we have to say it: Denver is a great place to live and work. In fact, it ranked among Kiplinger Magazine's Best Places to Live 2008 as well as RelocateAmerica.com's 100 Top Places to Live 2008. A generous relocation package is available, including help in this challenging housing market.
More About Your Role
If you're a good fit for this position, you already know most of what this job entails. However, to be sure we're providing a complete picture, here are some details.
In a nutshell, you will oversee the direction of maintenance activities for the company to achieve the annual business plan and long-term strategic Vision to Be the World's Best Dairy Foods Ingredients Manufacturer. This will involve coordinating activities among the Maintenance Departments at each manufacturing plant and working closely with the Technical Services group for production downtime, engineering installations, upgrades, etc.
We have nine plants in the US and two in Great Britain; while you may provide technical insights to the two plants oversees, you'll focus primarily on the domestic operations. All nine plants make cheese and whey products, although the exact products vary by location. While technical operations are largely standardized across the plants, each operates with a good deal of autonomy in meeting and exceeding their goals -- in fact, there is a healthy "sibling rivalry" for bragging rights among the plants. We have a good deal of unique, proprietary equipment.
Your primary responsibility will be to develop, implement, and audit plant maintenance programs, systems, processes, and concepts. This will include providing technical support in the areas of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), equipment inspection, equipment repair and reliability, the Maintenance Excellence Process (MEP), and Process Safety Management (PSM). In addition, you'll support the technical and leadership development of Maintenance employees company-wide.
Focusing on defining, educating, and fostering the use and growth of company-wide maintenance philosophy and practices, you'll establish standard policies and operating procedures designed to improve plant performance. Pivotal to your success will be teamwork and communications, as plant performance improvements are implemented through an integrated team process among the plant, technical services, quality execution, etc.
We'll measure your overall performance by increases in up-time, reduction in M&R spending, reduction in spare parts inventory, completion of preventive maintenance, the quality of audits conducted, the development and implementation of SOPs, and the overall use of CMMS and other tools.
Keys to Success
We're a "show me" culture. While we give new employees a solid, fair, and supported shot, ultimately success and credibility are earned through demonstration and contribution -- and frequently that contribution has to do with making positive impacts on our plants and their ability to operate efficiently. To excel in this role you will:
Who We Are

We're family owned, professionally managed, and financially strong. Given our industry leading technology (we hold more patents on mozzarella cheese-making technology than any other producer), and quest for future growth, we're expanding our international capabilities as well. We're currently the largest exporter of whey products, and our joint venture with Glanbia Cheese Ltd. is bringing our products to the European market.
From our headquarters in Denver to our manufacturing plants located across the country, our growth continues to provide exciting career opportunities. It's our vision to become the world's best dairy foods ingredients manufacturer, and we're looking for great people to help us get there.
